Cadette and Senior Girl Scout Uniform made between 1985-1990.Worn by Scouts in grades 7-12.
It was available with 2 blouses: a green plaid for Cadettes, and a blue plaid for Seniors. Shown here is the Senior blouse with skirt and fitted vest. Pants were also available, and the patch sash tied at the side. The blouse could tucked in or out.
This uniform is on loan from the Marie Ogdahl collection.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting, a collection of “Girl Scout Uniforms Through the Years” is on exhibit at the Museum now through March.

My late mother used to collect Girl Scout items amongst others. The 1980s era uniforms, along with the new “Profiles” logo and flag represented the first true updates in many years, breaking away from the WAC/WAVE-styled uniforms of the past. In the 1955 Girl Scout Handbook it states that the wearing of one’s uniform was one way of letting the world know that you were a Girl Scout.
The uniform on display here is quite conservatively styled for its time, but would look quite lovely on a Girl Scout color guard along with the “contemporary” and “traditional” trefoil flags.
