I have a job in this economic climate. My family has a roof over its head and food on the table. We have paid-for vehicles. We have no non-house debt. We have family nearby that we love. We have valuable friendships with people we can depend on. Life is good.
Ok, got the good stuff out there, right? Now I can complain…
Sometimes, I have no trouble getting my work done even with the furlough schedule. An unpaid week off per month isn’t the end of the world, and it usually doesn’t completely wipe me out with a heavy workload.
But right now? Trying to put the finishing touches on the quarter 2 books, trying to get ready for our company’s emergence from chapter 11, and simultaneously trying to get all the information together required by this auditor by tomorrow morning.
It can’t be done. Normally, I can get the folks in customer service to help pull purchase orders. Normally, I can get my receivables clerk friend to pull customer remittances. Normally, our payables clerk helps pull vendor invoices. But only 1 of the 3 CSRs is in the office, so the 1 guy who’s here is buried in his work. The AR clerk is on furlough. The AP clerk is still catching up from her furlough week, desperately trying to pay vendors and salesmen.
So I’m going it alone this week.
And next week is my furlough, so I don’t get paid.
And I’m still pissed about the 1-ply.
i feel you on the single-ply. tissue paper should NEVER be used to wipe one’s behind.
