Running to catch up

Item: My Pilates trainer likes cats! Now I love her even more.

I have much to write about, but haven’t had much time lately. Shra and Devin were here for a visit from the moment we got back to LA from San Jose (earlier, actually; they arrived before we did!), and they just left yesterday — giving us slightly more than twenty-four hours to recuperate, clean, and cook before my parents and Al arrive this afternoon. I love having people over, but indeed, it doesn’t leave me much time for writing. And there is so much I want to tell you. Alas, now I must shower (post-Pilates and a breakfast of scrambled eggs and chocolate pudding (homemade)), but I’d better jot down for my own reference:

Next entry will contain:
1. Haircut
2. Chez Panisse Cafe and the pizzetta of the world
3. Ghetto Gourmet
4. Shra and Devin visit
5. Parents-and-Al visit, probably
6. World Cup breakfasts
7. Anita Mannur
8. Hotel Angeleno
9. Shindig pictors!

And now, I leave you with this article from the NYT: “What Shamu Taught Me About a Happy Marriage.” Writer Amy Sutherland applies tricks learned from exotic-animal trainers to help nudge her husband into picking up his dirty socks. I laughed so hard while I was reading.

The exotic animal known as Scott is a loner, but an alpha male. So hierarchy matters, but being in a group doesn’t so much. He has the balance of a gymnast, but moves slowly, especially when getting dressed. Skiing comes naturally, but being on time does not. He’s an omnivore, and what a trainer would call food-driven.

Once I started thinking this way, I couldn’t stop. At the school in California, I’d be scribbling notes on how to walk an emu or have a wolf accept you as a pack member, but I’d be thinking, “I can’t wait to try this on Scott.”
