Introduction
This post is headed up exactly 11 days before the winter (in the northern hemisphere) solstice of 2012, assuming I got the time zones correct.
You know … THAT day. The one “everyone” is saying – or at least “everyone” is saying that the Mayans said – that the world is going to end. Or we’re all going to become higher vibrational spiritual beings. Or Planet X will swing by. Or some such other stuff.
In other words, only 11 more days people can suckle the milk from the teat of a meme that has frightened people, bilked them from money, made them see a pretty bad movie, and various other things.
If you’re just finding this blog through an internet search and don’t follow me regularly, perhaps you can tell that I clearly put zero stock in such things. In fact, the main purpose of this post is to create a “master” post for the majority of my 2012-related posts and podcasts. I’ve been known to suckle a bit myself, and there’s no harm in doing another post that’s just a bunch of links … it’s a public service, ¿ya know? to have ’em all in one place.
After all, the majority of people coming to my blog these days are coming here due to searches for 2012-related doomsday stuff.

Why would you be going to other sites?
Well, if you must, I highly recommend 2012 Hoax.org.
Regrets
My one main regret is not doing my planned eBook on the subject. It was going to be free, but I just never got around to writing it. Even just as a compilation of blog posts. 😦
I suppose my other main regret is that I have yet to do a post or podcast episode on the sun and 2012. The podcast episode will be coming out in 5-6 days, though … so, still have time, and it’ll come out.
Saving Face – Help Me Look?
All that said, there are lots of people who have made several explatives’-worth of money on 2012 stuff. I have to think that some of them are going to try to save face and back-pedal and make excuses.
If you find any, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! You can do this very easily by posting a comment in the Comments section below this post. I want to do a podcast episode on it early in 2012 (like February-ish).
End Stretch
So far, I really haven’t seen too much escalation of this stuff now that we’re less than two weeks away. Supposedly some people in Russia are worried, but I don’t know if that’s just the press making a big deal out of a few people.
Even Coast to Coast AM hasn’t really ramped stuff up — I almost expected that the producers would be having a 2012’er or Planet X’er on several times a week, but that hasn’t happened. Looking at their schedule for this week, Dec. 9-12 (what’s posted), we have Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, the fiscal cliff, some mob-JFK show, and the “Watchers” and a cosmic battle with L.A. Marzulli. Only the last one is remotely 2012-ish. Perhaps “not with a bang but a whimper” is apropos.
Oh, and NASA’s come out with their “nothing’s going to happen” stuff, but the people who believe that “something” in 2012 is going to happen are rarely going to believe anything that NASA or any other part of any government says. It’s perhaps unfortunate, but that’s the case.
So that’s that for now. See ya on December 22.
Edited to Add (11/12/2012): Apparently now, even the Vatican is getting in on this, saying nottin’s happenin’. Which makes sense, considering that their holy book contains text that states no human (fairly sure it says “man,” but I’m generalizing here) will know the day nor the hour of the end stuff it talks about. Well, and the Maya, to them, are pagans so nothing they do should be taken seriously since the Vatican has a monopoly on spirituality, or some such thing.
I’ve belatedly started pushing RationalWiki’s 2012 apocalypse article to be feature status in time for the end of the world. This list is most useful, thank you!

I like RationalWiki for several things and I frequently mention them in the podcast. But, I don’t think their 2012 page is that great.
Comment by Stuart Robbins — December 10, 2012 @ 12:24 pm |
It ain’t. So I’ve got a bit of pushing to do! The talk page discussion is progressing nicely.
Comment by davidgerard — December 10, 2012 @ 1:07 pm
Well, you can start to better it by linking to many wonderful pages elsewhere that talk about this sort of thing (cough cough, nudge nudge).
Comment by Stuart Robbins — December 10, 2012 @ 1:08 pm
I’ve pointed people here for a start 😉

I particularly detested the tim lehay books on final battle, etc. Pointless and destructive. As NASA admits the sun’s magnetic reversal is going slow, the revise this time is 2013. And we do get more cosmic radiation because of our lower magnetic field and the Van Allen belts are pumped up . Thankfully we have many new satellites collecting info.
There is so much new info it is hard to catalogue it all; I am interested in the LMC ; there is a stream of gas heading out way.

The end of the world is ending! It’s all coming down in a few days, folks! Repent of your sins or suffer in the post-post-apocalypse! Thanks for all the great coverage, Dr. Stu.
I am almost sad to see the 2012 craze go. It’s been with us so long, it used to be coming in 2003. Alas, all things must pass, but perhaps if we all vibrate together we can bring doomsday back in a new incarnation. Just keep thinking “Fear Is Money” over and over again, and I’m sure a new one will be back in time for Xmas.

I’m really trying to figure out what the next date will be …
Comment by Stuart Robbins — December 10, 2012 @ 12:24 pm |
If you really want to be able to predict the next date for an end of the world prediction, I think you’d need to be the source. Maybe come up with some sort of alignment of planets within the solar system, some vague galactic alignment, ala winter or summer solstice and combine that with a solar maximum or some other “important” cosmological event. Otherwise, I think it’s quite difficult to predict insanity.
Comment by Julian Janssen — December 10, 2012 @ 8:49 pm
Er… Predict the ideas that arise from insanity…
Comment by Julian Janssen — December 10, 2012 @ 8:50 pm
Thank the holy galactic alignment that this madness soon is over. For now at least. I am sure it will transform into something else and why not the 2027 – the Aztec doomsday… I will not be blogging for that long. Any news regarding Nazon?
Comment by Johan Normark — December 10, 2012 @ 7:07 am |
I was thinking 2029 with Apophis coming close to Earth, but that’s WAY too far off for someone to sell books about an impending doom. Need something <10 years away, I think. And I'll e-mail you about Nazon.

This –and NASA does believe in this: Astrophysics Magnetic wave energy fluxes for late-type stars
http://www.ita.uni-heidelberg.de/~ulm/papers/umf2001.pdf – Cached
Key words. methods: numerical – stars: chromospheres – stars: coronae – stars:
magnetic fields – MHD. 1. Introduction. It has become clear in recent years that …
is found on the same page 67 as your blog. I suppose it could be called a lot of things but a gravity wave it is not.

I sincerely thank you for this redux, Stuart. Although I have read them all previously – a lot of them more than once, I look forward to reading them all again, making them into a celebration of the ‘Twelve Days of Doomsday.’ Great entertainment.
For those who believe the 21st will arrive and peacefully go, thus ending it all, don’t hold your breath. There WILL be more to come, perhaps even beginning by Christmas. (I got this from my ET contacts, the Poohbearians from Ursa Minor.)

I sometimes enjoy re-reading some of my past posts. Some of them are particularly good … though some aren’t.
Comment by Stuart Robbins — December 10, 2012 @ 12:26 pm |
The wretched and ignorant pseudoscientist Richard Hoagland will be taking paying customers to Chichen Itza to pretend that anomalies in the timing of his 30-year-old Accutron wristwatch are a measure of what he calls “the torsion field.” Since none of his paying customers are savvy enough to ask to see his baseline recordings, he’s guaranteed “stunning confirmation” of his theory.
Pathetic.
Comment by Expat — December 11, 2012 @ 10:05 am |
Expat,
No kidding… Old watch using obsolete technology and where the original company stopped producing replacement parts in I think the late 1970s doesn’t keep good time? Who would have guessed that? Hoagie could always try to develop his own instrumentation which uses similar technology but with more recent components. But then he’d have to find an engineer… if he couldn’t do it himself. I have some friends who might be able to and I suspect Mr. Hoagland knows at least one engineer who could help him out… Bara?

This may be quite the wrong place to post this (so please feel free to move it, Dr Robbins).
I was at a friend’s place the other day, and caught the tail end of a TV news item about the Sandy Hook massacre; I think I heard mention of a possible discovery that Adam Lanza firmly believed in the so-called Mayan ‘end of the world’, and that this was what motivated him to take the actions he did.
That’s pretty shocking, if true; this Mayan stuff isn’t just some harmless nonsense, with nothing worse happening than a few thousand gullible folks being ripped-off by con-men! However, I wasn’t able to find anything definitive, on the extent to which Lanza had been driven by some end-of-the-world fantasy; the closest I came was this UK Daily Mail online article: “EXCLUSIVE: Gunman’s ‘survivalist’ mother was OBSESSED with guns and stockpiled supplies as she planned for economic collapse before son shot her in the face while she lay in bed”
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2248983/Connecticut-school-shooting-Adam-Lanzas-survivalist-mother-obsessed-guns.html
