Burundi’s president Pierre Nkurunziza die’s at age 55

The President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza has being pronounced dead after an official statement was posted on the twitter account of the Burundi government.

Nkurunziza controversial decision to run for a third term in 2015 was condemned by the opposition as unconstitutional and sparked mass unrest.

After a failed military coup and crackdown by security forces, thousands of people fled to neighbouring countries to escape the violence.

Nkurunziza’s final years in office were racked by turmoil.

He died at a hospital in Karuzi, in the eastern part of Burundi. He is reported to have suffered a heart attack, all attempt to save him proved futile.

According reports, Doctors immediate resuscitation attempt, couldn’t sustain him leading to his death.
