Today is the Independence Day of Poland – 103rd Anniversary

Today is the 103rd Anniversary of Poland’s regained independence following the allied victory against Germany on November 11th, 1918.

In 1795, Poland was split into the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Russia, and Prussia. Despite Napoleon’s epopee, two insurrections, and revolutions, those efforts remained unsuccessful and failed to bring Poland the independence and freedom so desired. This situation remained in force until 1918. On November 11, 1918, on the day of the Armistice, Jozef Pilsudski received the full powers to lead the military authority. The German soldiers were disarmed, while the crowds gathered on the streets throughout Poland. November 11th was declared a national holiday in 1937.

Today many events will be organized including the marathon of independence including the military ceremony on the Pilsudski square (12h) following by a military concert (14h),
