I always thought that extremely multi-colored landscapes – like the ones I recently photographed in Jujuy and Salta provinces, Northwest Argentina – should only be photographed and published in some way in color. But the results I have obtained in black and white have delighted me.
My procedure is as follows: I shoot with two cameras – a Nikon D500 with a good Sigma DC 17-50mm 1: 2.8 EX HSM lens and a Panasonic Lumix LX100II that has a fabulous lens by Leica DC VARIO-SUMMILUX 1: 1.7-2.8 10.9 -35mm ASPH.
With the two cameras I always photograph in color looking for maximum contrasts and the most vivid colors possible. The images are then converted to black and white using Silver Efex PRO (with just one or the other adjustment) and then I make some final adjustments in Lightroom.
