Previously there have been six continuing resolutions to prevent a government shutdown. Currently, some House Republicans including Randy Neugebauer of Lubbock are holding out for $61 billion in spending cuts. On Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, Neugebauer defended his position.
“It was part of our pledge…to the American people last fall, and I think we ought to keep our pledge,” Neugebauer said.
“So you’re not likely to vote for another continuing resolution if it’s under the $61 billion in spending cuts?” Neugebauer was asked.
“That’s right,” Neugebauer said.
And Neugebauer was asked about the possibility of a government shutdown at the end of this week.
“I’m hoping we’re not going to shut down the government, but I think the American people are ready for us to get serious about these deficits,” Neugebauer said.
