Technology as aid to fitness?

Don’t you just love technology? I’m not talking of the type of technology, where your computer crashes and files are lost just before a deadline. I am talking about the type of technology that motivates you.

Like the type of technology that allows me to jog on my treadmill. Actually, contrary to the normal sentiment of jogging in one spot, I quite enjoy it. I am hoping that this isn’t one of those things that you enjoy until the novelty wears off – the treadmill is only a few weeks old. I purchased it because I know that deep down I am a fair-weather jogger. It’s not that I mind jogging in the snow, it’s that I mind jogging in -30˚temperatures; if it ever gets that low.

And, yesterday was the first time I jogged with my “Nike iPod Sport Kit”. You know, that sensor thingy that goes into your running shoe and logs your distance, time and some other things that I haven’t taken the time to figure out yet. It is actually quite motivating with the female voice that notifies you of your progress every five minutes. I bought the runners a year ago, but I haven’t been motivated enough to use them until now. Just think where I’d be now, if I had started this a year ago?

I love technology. I can’t say that I am one of those people that have to go out and buy the latest things as they are released, but yes, I do love technology. And, if technology can help motivate me to a fitter me, then I’m all for it.
