Another year, another series of rumors about a future He-Man and the Masters of the Universe live-action project.
After a couple animated projects that were met with mixed reviews, Netflix has decided not to pursue any further He-Man and the Masters of the Universe projects.
The good news is that Netflix’s decision has opened the door Mattel to pursue another studio/distribution partner: Amazon Prime!
Per Variety, Amazon and Mattel are already in discussions for a new live-action He-man project!
As Mattel and the now deceased movie studio Orion learned in 1987, casting and faith to source material is EXTREMELY important to Masters of the Universe fans.
So the first obvious question to wonder is who Amazon is eyeing to play disproportionally muscular blonde barbarian? Geeky Daddy is on the case!
Geeky Daddy’s Dream Cast for a New He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Movie!
(Many of you may remember I did a Dream Cast He-man movie cast a couple years ago, but times and faces have changed)
Alan Ritchson as He-Man
Reacher star Alan Ritchson as He-Man makes too much sense not to happen.
Blode hair? Check! History with Prime studios? Double Check!! Disproportional amount of muscle? Triple Check!!!
I also think the dead pan delivery in which Ritchson delivers many of his lines in Reacher, combined with some super corny 80s PSA’s (Public Service Announcements), could be comic gold.
Tom Selleck as King Randor
Tom Selleck has all the characteristics needed for He-man/Prince Adam’s father: the honorable King Randor.
Selleck can pull off the morally sound father figure, the facial hair and the perpetual facial expression of a father who is disappointed in the actions of his son (not that I have extensive experience with that expression or anything..)
Renee Russo as Queen Marlena
The noble Queen Marlena of Eternia and Queen Frigga of Asgard have many similarities. Except one is literally a god and the other was an astronaut from Earth.
Actually, aside from both having extremely muscular blond sons, I’m not sure that they do have all that much in common…
But I’m sure veteran actress Rene Russo could do an excellent job playing both.
Jessica Chastain as Teela
Jessica Chastain is gorgeous, talented and can convincingly pull off the strong, no-nonsense attitude of a special forces soldier (check her out in the movie The 355).
Side Note: 35 years ago, Orion made the horrible decision to cast a lead actor with almost no acting experience (aside from Rocky IV and an uncredited villain role in James Bond: View to a Kill).
I would be cautious not to repeat the same error here, however I do think it would be fun to cast Dolph Lundgren’s daughter, professional fighter and aspiring actress Ida Lundgren, in a small role in the film. Such as a member of the royal guard under Teela’s command.
Liam Neeson as Man At Arms
Man At Arms has many Qui-Gon Jinn characteristics about him, so why not cast Jedi extraordinaire Liam Neeson as Teela’s adoptive father and He-Man/Prince Adam’s trusted confidant.
Having said that, if the script calls for offing Man At Arms, I would change my casting choice to Sean Bean…for obvious reasons.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart as Battlecat and Cringer
The selection of Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson for supporting roles such as Cringer and Battlecat is obviously the least likely to happen on a list of unlikely to happen castings. But this list is for fun!
Hart and Johnson are two of the busiest and most sought after (and highest paid) actors working today, so for them to get involved in a supporting character role would be a very hard sell for the producers at Prime.
I just think it would be hilarious to picture Kevin Hart voicing the cowardly Cringer and then The Rock’s deep confident voice take over when he transformers into the heroic Battlecat.
Ben Schwartz (Sonic The Hedgehog) as Orko
The bumbling lovable magician/friend/comic relief Orko is obviously going to be CG animated.
So why not cast the voice of another bumbling lovable friend/comic relief character Sonic The Hedgehog: Ben Schwartz!
Rosamund Pike as Sorceress…or Michelle Yeoh
For the Sorceress, I have gone back and forth between Rosamund Pike and Michelle Yeoh…and I am still torn. Both are have the regal beauty and acting chops for the majestic sorceress.
Potential Spoiler Alert Ahead...but then again, if I am spoiling something from a 40-year-old cartoon for you, you probably weren’t going to watch it anyway…
I guess the deciding casting factor between the two would be if Prime wants to maintain the Filmation canon of having the Sorceress be the mother of Teela. If so, then I lean towards Rosamund Pike for the role.
If not, I would cast timeless exotic beauty of Michelle Yeoh.
Bradley Cooper as Skeletor
The evil Skeletor is known more for his high-pitched voice and silly insults.
Through his work as Rocket Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel, Bradley Cooper has shown his ability, range and delivery of funny insults as a voice actor.
And since his Philadelphia Eagles won’t be in the playoffs much longer with Matty Pencil-Eared Patricia calling their defense, Cooper should have plenty of time to spend in the gym to bulk back up and fill out the Skeletor suit if he wants.
Eva Green as Evil-Lyn
Full disclosure: I have had the hots for Eva Green since I first saw her in James Bond: Casino Royale. Beautiful face, gorgeous body and when she lets her sultry French accent seep through….oh wow!
I’m sorry….I lost track. What were we talking about again?
Casting option B would be fellow seductive European actress Monica Bellucci.
Beautiful face, gorgeous body and when she lets her sultry Italian accent seep through….oh wow!
Shoot, lost track…what were we talking about again?
Vin Diesel as Beast man
Vin Diesel has the super gravelly voice and thick build to fill out the character of Skeletor’s evil (and sometimes simple) sidekick: Beast Man!
It could also be a cool little reunion for Vin and fellow Guardians of the Galaxy alumni Bradley Cooper.
Mark Calaway (The Undertaker) as Trap Jaw
Trap Jaw never had an abundance of dialogue, but he was always a staple in Skeletor’s evil stable of goons.
Mark Calaway (The Undertaker) has a distinctive voice and could have a very successful second career as a voice actor if he chose to. His casting would also be a cool bit of fan service to geeks like me.
What are your suggestions for casting choices for a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe live-action movie?
