There is a beauty
in the exploration of
the abandoned
places in our lives.
In the stillness
we can glimpse
in shadow and light
the might-have-beens,
could-have-done,
if-only-this.
We can spend idle
moments as we
are reviewing our day
to muse on how
differently our life
would be now, if we
had had the courage
to go left instead of right
that one day, or said no,
instead of keeping silent.
Are there infinite versions
of who we are, each
having made a different
choice, or like Rome,
do all roads lead to who
we are today?
