Part 153 ~ The Adventures of King Ben & Zeus the Big Dumb Dog

If you missed the start of this series, you can find it here. A lot of things will be the same or very similar.

Ben was playing with his chalk and was very focused on it. He only ate a few bites of his pizza and that took several prompts. When it was bath time, I showed him the alarm, ran the bath, began picking up the chalk… prompting him all along… finally after fifteen minutes, I picked up the rest of the chalk and herded him into the bathroom. He was not pleased. I got him clean and left him to play.

Daughter got up around 6:15pm, about the same time that Ben walked into the living room, dripping wet and no bathrobe. I was picking up dominoes. I saw the time and got Ben’s night meds ready, after I got his bathrobe.

He was angry about having to stop the chalk, and rather than use words to tell me he was angry, he took the chalk and dumped it all over the floor. Scripting about “Emma” and going to jail for breaking the rules. UGH! I went to my room.

Ben decided he was ready for bed at 6:30pm. Okay, whatever… Daughter took him and the Big Dumb Dog off to bedtime, then she went to her room.

I took some sunset pictures for Science and worked on putting a period at the end of the day.

Ben was just a lot of energy the past few days and it’s exhausting being bombarded by that. Anyway, I looked at the sky some more and it was getting prettier and prettier… it was a beautiful sunset

Younger called me around 7:30pm to tell me to open the front door, she had something for me. Oh-kaaay… So I unlocked the door. She had been out doing Postmates and had seen the Parrots in a tree. She stopped by the tree, parked and got out to look around on the ground… YES!! She found a feather and brought it to me. She won Bestest Daughter for the night! Hugs and then she was off to do more deliveries.

I did the things, took my pill, konked out and was awake again around 1:00am, my plaque psoriasis itching so bad that I wanted to rip my skin off. I was still awake at 3:30am, but determined to get a couple more hours of sleep.

Ben got me up at 5:45am… because we didn’t have to be up early today, because I got less sleep than usual, because Daughter was home… because this is Casa Cuckoo.

Into the living room I went. He wanted a soda first thing. We buy the mini cans, and he still won’t drink the Fruit Punch Capri Sun aka “juice”, so sure… why not? I want coffee, he wants Diet Coke. I uncovered Sven and peeked, but no pictures.

It was another pretty sunrise from the Bath Room window.

I began my Couch Sittin. Ben got up and dumped all his chalk and his dominoes. I guess he was still unhappy about it being cleaned up… OR… he didn’t know which he was going play with and wanted to be prepared. Whatever… I was having a hard time getting my eyes to focus. Even the pretty sunset didn’t get my blood pumping enough to clear the cobwebs from my brain.

Ben decided to start with chalk, I decided to play a game on my phone, hoping to get that grey matter working. Failed attempt, highlighted by Ben yelling “Gramma, wake up!” Dang it! I thought I was awake.

Daughter stumbled out at 10:30 to take over Couch Sittin. I gave my report, and made a fresh pot of coffee after navigating the chalk covering the floor. Ben had been having a great time shaving the chalk into dust. I did capture four seconds of Happy Noises.

Anyway, Daughter got up, I went to my room for some Horizontal Time. California labor laws require that I get a break after four hours and I had been Couch Sittin for five… tsk tsk tsk.

I hollered out the 2:30 med alarm, I didn’t get a response. I still hesitate to ask if she heard me because it’s silly to argue over his meds. He was still coming to Bounce me periodically to make sure I didn’t nap. I drifted in and out anyway. It’s hot in my room and I’m chronically exhausted. (Have I written that enough to be annoying?) Anyway, Ben was paying me a visit when Daughter brought his meds at 3:00. He left with her, secure in the knowledge that I was awake, and therefore ready to serve his merest whim.

It’s getting to be about that time. I just walked over to the corner market and it is yucky, gross hot outside. Groady to the max! Totally, fer sher! No Driving Miss Daisy tonight, no pressure. I’m going to be as still as possible and think cool thoughts.

Ben was a little less boisterous today, which was wonderful. Nothing super exciting except getting the Parrot feather last night, and the Sun painting the sky when it rises and sets. That’s good enough for me. If the temperature would drop fifteen or even ten degrees farenheit, it would be just about perfect. Thanks for stopping by, you’re always welcome at Casa Cuckoo. Hasta mañana.

  1. Ben has a great voice. Does he like to sing?
Singing helped Andrew a lot. He found his voice, in his words.

It’s crazy hot here too. Hard to keep my garden watered. It’s also smokey from the fires. Not a good combo.
No get together s cause we can’t be outside when it’s hot and smokey. So cooking and baking is how I have kept myself busy today.Made a beef stew. I know it’s not a summer meal, but i’m cleaning out my freezer. Added lots of veggies like celery, carrots, zucchini, onions, garlic, tomatoes and mushrooms. Wine chicken broth, beef broth, water and tomato paste and thyme and parsley from the garden.

    Stay cool.

    1. Beef stew is yummy! I add about a tablespoon of bacon grease to a big pot. It gives it a richness…
I loved when we had a big garden and I’d go pick fresh veggies and make a soup.
I don’t watch news and I only read it a few times a week. I just read about the fires last night. We’ve had a few little ones down here, but nothing big, knock on wood.
We Californians know earthquakes and we know fires.

      Stay Cool!

Oh, is your Dad back in the vet’s home yet? Is he “home” and how is Ken’s mom?

      1. I used bacon grease to sauté the vegetables. We think alike.
Dad is back home. Thanks for asking.
My mother in law is getting better slowly. She really wants to go home, but her ankle still has stitches and the cast isn’t on yet.
We are talking on the phone to stay connected.

Glad fires aren’t too bad where you live. Still smokey here.

    1. I was like a kid at Christmas when she gave it to me. Clapping my hands and doing a little dance💃🏼💓🦜
He can go on for quite a while, but its like he knew I was trying to capture it. 4 seconds is long enough. I just wanted you guys to know what “Happy Noises” actually sounded like.😉😆🤗🥰💗🌻🦋

    1. I can’t stop… every time I stop I fall asleep. Except at night when I’m medicated to sleep… then the cats want love, or the neighborhood is noisy or someone put a pea under my mattress 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So many great bands, I forget about some… I was browsing for a song and hit the Struts and knew they needed to be played.💃🏼💌

    1. I’ve wondered if everything was well with you! Glad you got to spend time with your family.
Yes, chronicling our daily doings is helping me to stay on the sane side of the line. I sill occasionally dance over the edge, but life’s more fun that way.💌💌

  2. And we have a feather! (The crowd roars.) Now we must all perform happy dances and exhibit celebratory gestures. I’m assuming we will soon see a photo of you placing said feather in a special shrine that Ben or The Tail of Zeus cannot reach?

    1. I haven’t decided where it’s final home will be. I have a box of odds and ends, bits and bobs that moved here with us over 10 years ago and was never unpacked because of Ben☹ I have a Gris Gris packed away in there. Right now the feather is stuck with a paperclip to my calendar, next to my bed, with the dried flowers and the “I 💖 You” note from Younger.

That’s a post right there… unpacking that box. I’ll have to find a suitable mounted wall shelf and find that box.🦜✨💃🏼

      1. Unpacking that box might take more than just one post, if it’s like the lugged-along boxes of this-n-that we have around here. Say, when you finally get around to it, maybe you can make it a mini-feature in your daily post. “This is what I found in the gris gris box today, and here’s a little story about it…” Just an option to ponder…

          1. “Anecdotes from Angie’s Attic”, maybe? That might be too wordy. “Box of Dreams”? Maybe too cutesy. I’m not meaning to push you into the concept, at all, just thinking out loud. It could be a handy go-to on those days when you’re struggling to find something new and interesting to share. (I certainly know the feeling.) “Treasured Quest”? Okay, I’ll shut up now… 😉

            1. I like them all! Treasured Quest is really good. Please, share your ideas! Every once in a while I come up with something good, but not nearly as often as I’d like. Part of the fun of blogging is sharing ideas and experiences with super cool people you wouldn’t otherwise know. I promise if you ever get annoying, I’ll treat you like my little brother and lock you in the toy chest.😈
