Isaiah 55:11 “…so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

If there were any doubt in our minds about this verse, we could turn to Genesis and read all the ‘God said’ verses. Whether in terms of creativity or prophecy, God’s word will be successful in accomplishing His will.

When there is doubt in our minds about the fulfillment of God’s word, it is because we misread the promise or fail to put the promise in the right time frame. This is especially true when we are reading from the prophets as sometimes the double meaning of the prophecy is not so easy to determine if it is about the end time.

Isaiah is trying to build the faith of his people. He wants them to see God in a different light, the light of a loving and caring God. Their behavior has made that extremely difficult. The people no longer believe the promises of God and feel that He has deserted them. Isaiah’s preaching is to convince them that they are the ones who deserted, they are the ones who proved to be unfaithful.

Task for Today: We live in that period between the first and second coming, and as the time stretches out, we may be tempted to think like the Jews that God has left us. Turn to Hebrews 11:6 and read that verse a few times to yourself. Every promise, whether for the now or for the end time, will come to pass. To believe otherwise is to fail to believe in God.
