What’s Trending in Spring/Summer 2020 Makeup

Spring is just around the corner and I don’t know about you but I am so ready to get out of the dreary winter months and welcoming all that the warmer months ahead have to offer. When you think of spring and summer, you think of bright, shiny colors. In Spring/Summer 2020 Fashion Week, that is exactly what you see with new methods and a few surprises along the way.

Of course the best place to experiment with color is the eyes and that is exactly what you saw on the runway. Lots and lots of color. “You can dip into as many pans as your heart desires to turn your lids into mini watercolor masterpieces.” (Abelman, 2020). Lately I have been in major experimentation mode with my makeup so I am super excited to rock this trend. If you are a Euphoria fan (this is a hit HBO show for those of you who don’t know… like me lol), then you will be ecstatic to know that the makeup world is all over it. “[The] Euphoria-worthy experimental eye make-up is spring/summer 2020’s stand-out trend, with primary colours and neon brights adorning eyelids top and bottom across countless catwalks. (March, 2019) For those of you who may not be one to experiment with color all over the eye, may be more at your speed. “Choose two eyeshadows that sit opposite each other on the color wheel, and swipe one across your lids and the other along your lower lash line.” (Kwarteng, 2020)  Another more subtle option to play with color is the ombre effect. To me this screams Spring and Summer and I’m super excited to master this look.

Prefer to work on one color? That is fine because you can find a variety of trends you can rock by using one color. If this is true then you want to start using those blues and purples. If those are a bit too much for you then a minty green will do the trick.

If you are not afraid to play with color, then you will love this next trend because one thing is clear across the board when it comes to this trend… Neon Colors. Yes, that’s right vibrant, bright neon colors. There were a variety of neon colors found on the runways used in various ways (remember, ombre effect). I know neon colors may be freaking you out but what I love about this season is that there is a trend for every type of makeup user, including using neon colors. That’s right! Not a big fan in wearing bright colors on your eyes… you can easily do a small pop of neon color with the floating liner look in the crease, doing a colorful wing liner or adding a pop of color in your inner corner. If this is still too much for you then pull out the white liner and have fun with it just as I described. As I said, this season is going to be all about having fun with color!

Are you a traditional, smoky eye type of makeup lover? Don’t worry, there’s a trend for you too. You can continue to rock that signature look this season and to stay on trend, all you gotta do is add little sparkle to the look. What do I mean by that? Add a metallic satin to your lid and bam, you are right on track!

Another trend that was popular across the board was embellishments. What do I mean by that? Add some stars, pearls or crystals to your eye look and really make a statement. Looking for a way to add a little pizzazz to your no makeup makeup look? Here is your answer!

Now onto the second place where you can play with color… your lips. This is where most of you are probably going to be shocked by what is trending. Of course the typical bare or lightly colored lip all glossed up is still in. That is just a given. What surprised me was that the lip colors that were in this season were dark. Yes that’s right dark! The classic red lip made it’s statement when paired with bare lids and face. I know for me, this will be a great look to do when I am looking to not apply to much makeup but still want to look like I made an effort.

The biggest shocker of all for me was the Goth lip. Yes, that’s right black lipstick! But I have to admit, seeing it on the runway this look was incredible. The best way to rock this look for most of you is what was seen at Max Mara’s runway- “Take inspo from queen Bella [Hadid] at Max Mara’s spring 2020 runway show and swipe on a vampy, almost-black lipstick instead. It looks totally badass, especially against neutral clothes.” (Kwarteng, 2020) To be honest, with my super pale skin, I’m not sure that dark of a lipstick will go for me, but I will be trying alternatives to this look like using a dark plum.

Now for face makeup, I have to say, there really wasn’t anything popping other then rocking glowing skin. With warmer weather approaching and having the capability to be outdoors more, we will see our skin begin to have a natural sunkissed glow. For those of you who are super pale like me, we will just have to take advantage of using our favorite cream blushes and adding a soft bronzer for the desired look. Remember, to take care of your skin and apply SPF protection on your face. Even if you are someone who tans naturally, sunscreen is a must to keep our skin healthy and younger looking.
