There are 137,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot gong on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Stolen Car Leads to Long List of Charges

A Guelph couple were arrested on more than two dozen charges after the police’s Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit spotted a stolen SUV on Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of a business on Edinburgh Road near Willow. Police blocked in the car, and arrested a male driver and a female passenger. A search of the car revealed stolen property including cheques and identification.

A 22-year-old Guelph man and 32-year-old Guelph woman were jointly charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, six counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000 and two counts of unlawful possession of a credit card. The man was also charged with another count of possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, two counts of theft under $5,000, 12 counts of driving while prohibited and three counts of breaching court orders.

Assault

A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with uttering threats and breaching a conditional sentence order after getting into a verbal argument with a woman walking her dog in Preservation Park. During the argument, the man, who was also walking his dog, threatened to burn down the woman’s home and then followed her back to her residence.

Police are looking for a white female in her 40s driving a grey sedan in connection to a young boy hit by a car Monday afternoon. The four-year-old was walking with his mom at the intersection of Stone and Scottsdale when he was struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene. The boy was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. Anyone the witnessed the collision, or has dash cam footage, send a message to Constable Tom Lecomte at tlecomte [at] guelphpolice.ca.

Theft

The couple  mentioned in the top story were tied to the case of another stolen SUV, which was used in a gas-and-go incident at a south end gas station at 10 pm on Tuesday. The SUV was stolen from Halton Region last weekend, and is believed to have been involved in other gas-and-go incidents. It was found in an unoccupied area near Speedvale and Gladstone.

A 44-year-old Guelph male is charged with theft under $5,000, obstruct police and breach of probation despite his best efforts to provide police with a fake name and date of birth. Police were called to a business in the area of Woolwich and Woodlawn after the suspect was spotted with a backpack full of stolen items.

A 36-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and breaching probation after DNA connected him to the theft of a Ford hatchback in the east end last November.

Two people were arrested on a number of charges after police identified the SUV they were driving erratically in the area of Ediburgh and Southcreek early last Saturday morning. A 32-year-old London man and 37-year-old Guelph women were jointly charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and two counts of possessing controlled substances. The man was also charged with obstructing police and breach of probation.

Truck load of care was stolen from a property in the area of Arrow and Fair at around 2 am on Monday morning. The truck was carrying two Audis, a Porsche Carrera, a Lincoln MKX and a Toyota. Through GPS, the truck was tracked to an area in Caledon but only the truck and the Lincoln were recovered. Traffic

A 40-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired operation on Thursday after witnesses saw her vehicle mount the curb in two different locations and hit a tree. When police arrive at the second location, a parking lot at Stone and Gordon, the driver was standing beside their vehicle showing obvious signs of impairment.

A 25-year-old Cambridge man was charged with speeding and stunt driving, and his licence was suspended for 30 days after police pulled over a Lexus doing 116 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone on Monday afternoon in the area of Speedvale and Elmira.

A 33-year-old Guelph male is charged with dangerous driving and Highway Traffic Act charges after running a red light on Macdonell Street and then trying to race past another car by swerving into oncoming traffic. The suspect was found to be driving without documents.

The BEAT unit found a Ford SUV in a parking lot on Imperial with licence plates belonging to Kia vehicle. Inside the car, police found four different sets of plates, retired US Navy memorabilia, identification and credit cards in various names. A 36-year-old Guelph man and a 32-year-old Guelph woman are jointly charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and several counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000. The man was also found to be wanted on eight different warrants from various police services.

A 47-year-old Guelph man was charged with driving while prohibited after police saw him driving along Speedvale East and knew him to be prohibited from driving. The car, which belonged to the female passenger, was impounded for 45 days.

A 55-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired operation, driving while prohibited and driving while suspended after a west end business reported a possible impaired driver in the area. She failed a road side test screening, and her driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

A 44-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, trafficking stolen property, five counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000 and possessing break and enter instruments. The BEAT team learned that items stolen from a Victoria Road South business earlier this month were being sold on a popular buy and sell website. The investigation lead to an arrest on Monday afternoon.

Other Notes

A 36-year-old Guelph man was charged with failing to attend court after police received reports of a male yelling and throwing things around the main library downtown at 1 am on Tuesday morning.

A 25-year-old Guelph male was further charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possessing illicit cannabis under the Cannabis Control Act. Police spotted a wanted man riding his bike on Waterloo Avenue last Sunday evening, and when they searched him they found an extendable baton and cannabis that was not in its original packaging.

A 27-year-old Owen Sound female was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of breaching probation. She had been in Guelph this past Boxing Day despite being bound by an undertaking that required her to never step foot within the city limits of Guelph except for court appearances.
