Former Mexican Olympic cyclist Hector Rangel, who competed at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, won the GFNY Monterrey gran fondo race by 39 seconds Sunday in Monterrey, Mexico.

Rangle only needed 03:18:55 to complete the 130km course, finishing with an average speed of 41.3km/hr.

Ismael Bautista Garcia finished next in 3:19:34, followed by former Mexican National Time Trial Champion Flavio de Luna in 03:20:00.

For the women, Gabriel Mijangos Díaz claimed victory in 03:25:07, with Ana Cecilia de León earning second place in 03:42:59 and Daniel Soler taking third in 03:43:15.

Riders finishing in the top 20% of their age group earn the right to start from the front corrals at the GFNY World Championship race on 17 May in New York City.

Over 1700 cyclists participated in third edition of GFNY Monterrey and the 4th edition is planned for 7 March 2021.
