EMPEROR TRUMP

One of the first actions a dictator takes is suppression of the press. In their paper, “MEDIA FREEDOM IN DICTATORSHIPS”, Egorov, Guriev, and Sonin state, “Free Media are an anathema of any dictator”

From Wikipedia, a definition: “In modern usage, the term “dictator” is generally used to describe a leader who holds and/or abuses an extraordinary amount of personal power, especially the power to make laws without effective restraint by a legislative assembly.

 

Dictatorships are often characterized by some of the following traits: suspension of elections and of civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents without abiding by rule of law procedures; these include one-party state and cult of personality”.

 

That all sounds vaguely familiar to me.

 

The system of “Checks and Balances” has been suspended. The Legislative, Judicial branches BELONG to the Executive branch—for the moment!

 

The soil is ripe and fertile for a narcissistic, megalomaniac to enjoy a short-term stint as “EMPEROR of AMERICA”

    Oh yes!
    I have recently being reading some histories of Rome and listening to some podcast Radio programmes on the same subject.
    You know what Ron; the tragedy for the USA, this freak of the voting system is not even close to the middle ranks of the roman emperors. He is heading right there for the bottom bunch, the ones who are recorded for their inept and quirk ways.
    As the USA goes he’s right there….. below Millard Fillmore.
    In the Roman World of politics he would have lasted a year. Those guys played for keeps and knew more dirty tricks than his little brain good imagine…..Just an upstart merchant in their eyes.
    What a bad joke to play on the USA.

      So true Roger. Funny, I was just thinking of
      Fillmore as I read a Facebook post from someone claiming that Trump is the greatest president ever.

        These folk Ron, they do rant to provoke.
        They have been building up their hatred for the change in culture from the 1970s onwards and it reached tipping point.
        Trump is nothing more than a figure head for their prejudices, fears and frustrations.
        A person born of wealth, fraudster with an immoral background, a creature of the shallower end of the media, a draft dodger.
        As the American saying goes:
        ‘Gimme a break!’

        I believe your assessment is right on Roger. It’s been brewing for a while. Whites hear fear that they’re losing control of “their” country. They fear becoming a minority.

        You see Ron, this is where my theory of the disease of Terminal Stupidity kicks in.
        IF they read their constitution and IF they took some time out to appreciate how ordinary democratic politics with all its compromises, deals and short-changing some promises works, then their fears will never happen. True it is a flawed system, and you need a slight dose of cynicism to accept it, but it is a great deal better than the alternatives. We are flawed children, best to keep those flaws, small.
        Their way starts out on a long road to conflict and disintegration of the state. They scream and they shout, they scare folk, which in turn leads to confrontation, somewhere down the line.
        History warns us all, some time along the road, the debt caused by hatred will be called in, with interest.
