Where would film animation be without Winsor McCay? The iconic comic artist and animator brought his most popular creation to life in this little behind-the-scenes short. It’s just as charming as you can imagine.
McCay shows himself drawing every frame by hand (the cel animation concept was still being developed) and the grand finale of the picture features a brief, hand-colored animated sequence. It will charm your socks off.

I love all the whimsical characters in McCay’s universe, but it’s absolutely Gertie the Dinosaur who first stole my heart.
Definitely iconic
Refering to Disney Studios, Walt Disney allegedly once said to McKay’s son: “All this should be your father’s”. His legacy on the development of animated cinema is immeasurable!
