Three Months To Go

The Fogoneu grape (photo) is a Vitis vinifera variety native to Mallorca. This grape is particularly widespread in the Felanitx region. In about three months time, the grapes will be ready for harvesting and will be made into vi negre (vino tinto, red wine) of the DO Pla i Llevant denomination. This D. O. recognition was established in 1999. Apart from the Fogoneu grape, only Manto Negro, Callet, Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Pinot Noir are authorised under the DO Pla i Llevant for red wines, and only Parellada, Chardonnay, Macabeo, Moscatel, Moll (Prensal Blanc) and Riesling, for white wine.

Mind you, it will be at least twelve months from now before this year’s wine will be ready for drinking. Salut.

The photo was taken near Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: June 13th, 2011. The time was 18:28:26.
