Missy What?!

Okay, so if you haven’t already heard..Missy Elliot made an awesome appearance during the Super Bowl. There were many of us…(like me) who were ecstatic to hear and see her perform. It’s been quite awhile. Of course, there were some who were a little confused as to who she was and wondered if she was a new artist.

It’s funny how so many people weren’t sure of who she was. My point is some songs have become something that would be used as a throwback. You know songs of nostalgia. They’re barely played on your iTunes or burned into a cd somewhere in your room. I used to listen to Missy Elliot when I was in high school (which was five years ago). Music is constantly changing which means younger kids nowadays listen to completely different artists than what I listened to and to what my parents and so forth. Which got me thinking, I probably don’t know that many artists that past generations listened to ( I know some because I’m a moodie…its like a foodie but for music).

So what I decided to do for my #throwback feature was to focus on music.

We all have that one song that takes us back to hanging with your pals, that one school dance, that song that got you through that tough time. So what I plan to share with all of you are three songs for my #TBT.

1. Chris Brown- ‘Run It’

Yup, that’s right before he went and did things that I do not condone. I was obsessed with CB. This was “my jam” when I actually could bust a move. I know I make myself sound really old, but I actually can’t dance anymore. I feel like I lost my hip hop dance moves. But back to my throwback. Everyone knew this was my jam. I had his posters alongside, Usher and Keshia Chante (you can YouTube her, if you don’t know) on my walls. So let me share this song with you because it always makes me want to dance, even if I don’t like the artist CB has become.

2. Ciara ft. Petey Pablo- ‘Goodies’

Oh gosh, how could anyone forget about my goodies…haha just kidding. Ciara was and still is my girl. I know it sounds crazy but I wanted to be her because of her sick dance moves. She had an athletic build and could make you want to dance and sing. Along many of her other songs, this was one of my favourites. She had songs that fit your every mood. I would always listen to her on my MP3 player.

3. Ne-Yo – ‘Miss Independent’

So for me Ne-Yo was the Bruno Mars of my generation. And okay, again I’m not that old but every girl I knew was jamming out to Ne-Yo. He made us feel things, he was there when we were sad and when we knew we would be okay. I was never ‘so sick’ of listening to him. I have a whole cd (that I burned for my stereo) of his music to get me through my high school crushes. When this song came out, I was finally leaving high school and it felt perfect. I felt like I would become this big independent girl who is going off to college. Oh and again, he can also dance. I really like dancers and singers, if you didn’t get that by now.

So this is my #throwbackthursday for this week, feel free to tell me your #tbt songs whether they are new, recent or a nice classic. I can’t wait to go ahead and listen to them. If you didn’t know that already, I love listening to music and finding little gems. So don’t forget to share!!

XOXO
