Director Rob Letterman has mixed genres with Monsters Vs Aliens and brought the childhood horrors from R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books series to the big screen. Now it would seem he is looking to delve a bit deeper into the fantasy realm by taking on Warner Bros upcoming Dungeons & Dragons according to the Tracking Board.

After spending quite some time in a legal quagmire, WB has finally started getting serious about pushing this project forward. Steps were taken late last year to get this started, and hiring Letterman is a step in the right direction. While he has helmed a few forgettable films in the past (like Shark Tale and Gulliver’s Travels), Goosebumps was a surprise last year.

The studio is said to be looking for a “Vin Diesel-type” for the lead…but seeing as how the gravel-voiced actor is himself a huge D&D fan they might have just been putting feelers out there to see if the actor is interested.

No official announcement has come from either Letterman or the studio yet so for now we’ll take this news with some caution. But Warner Bros could do way worse and Letterman has proven that he can do PG-13 that appeals to a wide audience, appealing to both kids and adults in one fell swoop.

While no release date has been set, as soon as the studio feels confident about where the film is headed I’m sure we’ll hear something.
