The continuation of moderate temperatures, consistent precipitation, and the hard work by firefighting crews have contributed to achieving 100% containment on the Little Chena River Fire (#499).
Division of Forestry Fairbanks Area Incident Commander Ernest Prax praised the efforts of all firefighters on this incident which included: Fairbanks Area Forestry Initial Attack firefighters, and Hotshot crews Mad River, Blue Mountain, Lewis & Clark and Chief Mountain.
Crews will begin the arduous process of removing the miles of hoses, along with tanks, pumps, sprinklers, and nozzles used on this incident. Every piece of equipment is removed from the fire ground and returned to the warehouse to be cleaned, refurbished, and made ready for the next fire.
The weather forecast for the next 7-10 days calls for a continuation of the mild and wet pattern that we have seen during recent days. The Fairbanks Area Forestry Type 3 organization under IC Prax has met all objectives and will begin demobing crews so they are available for other fire assignments. This will be the last update for the Little Chena River Fire unless conditions change.
