Hull City vs Plymouth Argyle

This game was the choice of Rory Drake. He was planning on going until there was a train strike and so then we came up with a plan for me to drive down. It was a new ground for me, but not for Rory. I think it’s the first time I’ve driven us both to a game that is a revisit for him but a new ground for me.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this trip to Hull City. We were in Hull at midday, and to be honest, I thought the city was better than many people make it out to be.

The football ground is around a 20 minute walk from the city centre, and it’s a bit of an average new-ish build bowl. The ground is nothing special, but there is plenty of good at Hull City. I only paid £20 to get into this game for a seat behind the goal and no fees for the ticket to be emailed. Hull are a top end Championship side, and there won’t be many/any other clubs at this level where you can get in for £20. You definitely can’t at Sunderland and Middlesbrough! We had food in the city centre before the game, so I didn’t get anything in the ground, but it looked good, and much better than your standard food at a professional football ground.

The game was an entertaining watch too. Hull probably will feel as though they should have won it, especially with their chances towards the end, but Plymouth had chances too, particularly in the first half when they could have doubled their lead shortly after taking it through Adam Randell in the 22nd minute.

Regan Slater pulled Hull level in the 44th minute, and that’s how it finished, but it was a very watchable game.

I thought Hull played out from the back too much, especially in the first half, and they were caught out a few times. It’s obviously good to see a team play out from the back, but they needed to be more direct at points.

Something else I noticed was that both teams posed very little threat from corners.
