Easington Colliery vs Jarrow FC

Colliers claim three points against Jarrow

Easington Colliery claimed another three points with a comfortable 4-2 win over Jarrow FC at the Welfare Park on Saturday afternoon.

Simon Todd put the Colliers ahead in the 19th minute, but Liam McBryde pulled the visitors level eight minutes later.

However, Josh Home-Jackson regained Easington’s lead, and further goals from Jack Pounder and Home-Jackson meant the points were secure.

James Norton pulled one back for Jarrow inside the final quarter of an hour, but the Colliers saw the game out to claim the points.

Jack Pounder returned to the side following his injury, and he captained the side.

Upon kick-off, Jarrow had a few early attacks, but they couldn’t create any chances.

Liam Adamson had a shot drift wide in the seventh minute, before the same man forced a comfortable save from Jak Wells soon after.

In the 14th minute, the visitors almost took the lead. Jonathan Evans burst down the wing and cut in before pulling a ball back from the byline. It found McBryde at the near post, but his shot bounced back off the post.

As the Colliers attacked, Jak Ashton fired over, before a crucial block denied a goalbound Pounder effort.

With 18 minutes played, the Colliers broke the deadlock. Todd and Pounder both had efforts blocked as Jarrow put everything on the line, but there was nothing Jarrow could do about Todd’s second attempt as he picked out the bottom corner from 12 yards.

The ball was in the net for a second time three minutes later when Pounder headed home, but it was ruled out for an apparent foul.

McBryde then forced a comfortable save from Alex Lawrence, before Jarrow pulled level in the 27th minute. David Smith’s cross picked out McBryde in the penalty area, and his effort nestled into the net.

Having conceded, the Colliers responded and regained their lead just eight minutes later. Good play led to a corner, and Todd whipped it into the area where Home-Jackson lost his marker to head home from four yards.

Four minutes later, the Colliers’ lead was doubled. Ashton this time whipped a cross into the penalty area, and Pounder’s header from eight yards gave Wells no chance.

The Colliers were now fully in control, and half chances fell the way of Adamson and Joe Hassanin before the break.

Three minutes in the second half, Hassanin fired an effort over from 20 yards, before the same man went agonisingly close to putting his name on the scoresheet. His first touch opened up room for a shot from the corner of the penalty area, and his thunderous effort crashed off the crossbar and off the line. Home-Jackson got onto the rebound, but he could only direct his effort wide.

An array of substitutions slowed the game down, with the only half chance coming when Easington stopper Lawrence saved McBryde’s fame effort.

Jarrow introduced Glen Hargrave in the 65th minute, and a couple of his long throws were causing the Colliers some problems. One of his throws was headed towards the back post, and it forced Lawrence into a good save.

However, in the 67th minute, the Colliers added their fourth. The ball was worked into Pounder who helped it onto Home-Jackson. Being his clinical self, Home-Jackson spotted a chance to shoot, and he curled a low effort into the bottom corner.

Home-Jackson had a couple of further efforts blocked as he looked for his hat-trick, while McBryde and Norton both tried their luck to no avail at the other end.

In the 79th minute, a Jarrow goal gave them the slightest hope of getting something from the game. A cross found Norton at the back post and his header took a couple of deflections before finding a way into the net.

Great work from substitute Jordon Southern gave him a chance to get his first goal of the season in the 85th minute, but his effort was well saved by Wells.

Home-Jackson and Ryan Lincoln Barrow both had chances come and go for the Colliers in injury time, but it didn’t matter as the points were already secure.
