Rainer Buchmüller, the German DJ and producer best known as Fred und Luna, died just before the release of his selection of Future Sounds Of Kraut Vol. 2. in 2024.
Buchmüller’s death was confirmed earlier this year, by Michael Reinboth of Compost Records. “I’m deeply saddened that we lost our friend, artist, poet and soulmate Rainer Buchmüller, AKA Fred und Luna,” the post read on February 14th. “He died after a long battle with carcinosis. Rainer we love you and you’ll live in our hearts forever.”
Hailing from Karlsruhe, Buchmüller described his music as “electrokraut” in reference to the way it melded elements of krautrock with more contemporary electro. It found its way onto labels such as Optimo Music, Innervisions and, most regularly, Germany’s Compost label. His second curation of electronic music for the German tastemeakers and is well worth snapping up.
After the success of Volume 1 a follow-up volume was tied in stylistically with its predecessor, with some more club oriented and experimental tracks on this second expert selection.
