These trees have been around on the Earth for thousands of years. They have many stories to tell, and if you happen to see them, you will be astounded.

Trees carry with them a sense of grandeur and wisdom. In the presence of an ancient tree it’s difficult to not stop to wonder – what has this tree seen? Many trees have borne witness to the rise and fall of many civilizations.

Trees are sacred gifts of creation. Hopefully, humanity will learn to appreciate mother earth and protect our trees from unnecessary felling. Here are some photos showing the giants of the trees of the world.

This is not a ranking, we just look around our world and respect these trees.

The President Tree (3200 years old) 

This majestic sequoia tree resides in the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park in California, USA. The President is not the tallest tree in the world, yet, it is the third largest tree in the world when ranked by the volume of its trunk.

In tree symbolism, the sequoia signifies longevity of life, as well as aiming for the highest in life and living your dreams.

Awesome, the mind to think this tree was alive when Ramesses II ruled Egypt!

Methuselah (4,850 years old)

Methuselah is a 4,850 years old bristlecone pine tree growing high in the White Mountains of Inyo County in eastern California. For many years it was thought to be the world’s oldest known living non-clonal organism, until it was superseded in 2012 by the discovery of another bristlecone pine in the same area with an age of 5,068 years (germination in 3050 BC)

Old Hara (5,068 years old)

Old Hara was already 1,000 years old when the last wooly mammoth died.

Would you like to visit a living thing, still alive today, that was around in the time of wooly mammoths? It turns out that actually you can! The world’s oldest tree is a Great Basin bristlecone pine located in White Mountains, California, and is dated at 5068 years old.

To put that into perspective, isolated populations of wooly mammoths on Wrangel Island didn’t finally go extinct until 4,000 years ago, with the small island in the Arctic Ocean serving as a santuary for the great beasts, forced from the mainland by humans and climate change long before.

Old Hara is not only an awesome name for a tree, it’s also the oldest tree in the world. At 5,068 years old, this Great Basin bristlecone pine can be found in the White Mountains of California.

Old Hara is so old, in fact, that it has been around since the Bronze Age. It predates even the great pyramids!

The World’s Tallest Tree: Hyperion (115.6 meters)

Hyperion was discovered on August 25, 2006 by naturalists Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor in a very remote region of Redwood National and State Parks (California, USA) and is believed to be approximately 700-800 years old.

Explorers say that the tree could have been possibly taller than 380′, but due to woodpecker damage at the very top it is currently measuring in at 379′ 4″.

Stratosphere Giant (112,83 meters)

In 2006, Humboldt State University measured and verified that Hyperion – a 379.4 foot tall redwood tree – is truly the world’s tallest living tree. Hyperion was the largest of three redwoods discovered this summer, which eclipse the previous world record holder, a 370.5-foot tall redwood dubbed Stratosphere Giant, which you can see below.

Unfortunately most of the photos of this tree look like they were taken with a cellphone camera (or a banana – we can’t tell), so it looks like we might have to embark on a journey to find this giant and take a good photo of it for you guys. But to give you an idea of just how tall this tree really is, check out the previous “world’s tallest tree” title holder – the Stratosphere Giant – which is 10 feet shorter than the Hyperion. Note the 3 climbers in blue.
