The Model Of Conduct

Philippians 1:27-30

purpose – The conduct or deportment of the Christian is to be that of Christ Jesus; not that of the world around us.  We are to set the temperature; not register the surrounding temperature.
Our Church covenant has a clause which states, “We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment…”

I.  MODEL THE LIFE OF CHRIST JESUS (v. 27)

A.  Stand firm.
B.  Being of one spirit – the spirit of Christ.
C.  Having one mind – the mind of Christ (2:5; 1 Cor. 2:16)

II.  MODEL OF FAITH – FEARLESS OF THE ADVERSARIES OF THE CROSS OF CHRIST (v. 28).

A.  Psalm 40:3 – “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”
B.  Proof of the perdition of the adversaries of Christ.
C.  Evidence of our salvation.

III.  MODEL OF ENDURANCE THROUGH SUFFERING (vv. 29-30).

A.  Suffering – a gift given in the behalf of Christ.
B.  To suffer for His sake.  John 16:33.
C.  Are we asking the wrong thing; when we are right with God; and are ask Him to take away our suffering?

“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)”  2 Corinthians 10:4
