DOLL DANCE SKIRT PATTERN

Hi everyone! I am here today with a very cute skirt pattern for your dolls! It is actually an easy hack from my other skirt pattern, so those of you who enjoyed that one will be happy to have this one!

You can find the original skirt pattern at the link below:

EASY A-LINE KNIT SKIRT PATTERN

Using that pattern, I am going to show you how you can make a cute wraparound dance skirt for your dolls!

Here are the original pattern pieces:

Using those same pattern pieces, all I did was make a minor adjustment to round off the front corner of the skirt piece.

This doesn’t have to be perfect. You can do a little bit of a round corner like we did, or you can round the edge out a whole lot all the way up to the waistband line, depending how much of a curve you want.

Now the original skirt pattern called to cut one skirt piece, but for the wraparound skirt, you need to cut two pieces, one lining and one main fabric.

To make the wraparound dance skirt, choose lightweight jersey knit fabrics for the lining and a stretchy overlay for the main. This skirt is no good with heavy fabrics. Your doll doesn’t want to dance in something that will weigh her down. The skirt should be light and fluttery.

Pin your skirt piece on the fold of your fabric with the stretch running according to the arrow line.

As you can see, I have even included some of my DNA in my skirt pattern piece. Mind the sharp pins! Ouch!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Here are the pieces you should have:

Waistband, skirt overlay, skirt lining. With right sides together, pin the skirt overlay to the skirt lining as shown. Do not pin the top edge.

Stitch using a 1/4” seam.

Trim your seam to 1/8” and clip the rounded corners.

Trim to 1/8” seam.
Clip the corners.

Now turn the skirt right side out. Press.

Topstitch as shown.

Next, baste stitch across the top edge of the skirt.

Fold the waistband in half lengthwise with right sides together.

Stitch each end.

Clip the corners. Then turn the waistband right side out. Press.

Pin the waistband to the skirt with the raw edges together as shown. Stitch using a 1/4” seam. Serge or zigzag the raw edge.

Now press the seam up toward the waistband. Topstitch.

Add a small piece of velcro or a snap to each side of the skirt.

We also cut a strip of the overlay to create a rolled bow for our skirt. We just stitched it on. You could use a piece of ribbon or a button, too.

And you are done!! Hooray!

Emily loves her new dance skirt!

I hope you guys enjoyed this pattern hack!!

Happy sewing and I will see you again soon!
