Voices: the Bible- Day 2

Devotion for Wednesday, December 7

Psalm 119:10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.12 Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.

Like we talked about yesterday, the most imporant voice we need in our life on a daily basis is the voice of God. He has spoken through His Word. What an incredible gift this is! It’s not realistic to think that we’ll be able to look at the Bible every time that we have to make a decision. That is why it is so important to have God’s Word memorized so that we can do what He says and not do what He has forbidden for us.
What a great prayer the psalmist prays in verse 10. He says, “God please don’t let me wander from your commands.” He then follows up with the incredible verse- “I will hide your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Certainly “hiding …in my heart” includes not only knowing the words but also believing, accepting, doing and owning the words of God as well.
Application:
Today I was challenged again with hiding God’s Word in my heart. Have you ever memorized God’s Word? Why not try to memorize today’s verse?

I remember a lot of times when I was little I would memorize the bible in church or something, but it seemed to stop once I got older. Now, the only way I memorize scripture is if I hear it a lot! Which is bad. David says that in the verse. I think it’s a good thing to get in the habit of memorizing scripture a lot! Cause it would be soo cool to know some great verses and where they’re found in the bible off the top of my head! 🙂 & I want to do just what is says in the verse: i don’t want to wander from Gods commandments, ever!

The first thing I ever memorized was John 3:16 and I still memorize it now. As we do bible verses I’m starting to remember some of them. U also remember Philippians 4:13 and agree with Alexis, I don’t want to wander from God commandments either not now not ever. I want to get in a habit of memorizing Verses because it’s a good thing I do! 🙂

This I so important because it says memorize Gods word that latter on you won’t sin against Him. This reminds me of the character under construction series where we learned that one of the best ways to fight of temptation and sin is through the memorization of scripture.

  5. Memorizing verses is so important! The verses I have memorized are always so helpful to me and really help me reassure that God is in control and by his word he directs my paths. This verse is great! I know that I really need to work on memorizing more scripture because like I said above it’s so helpful and it’s so important! I’m definetley going to take this challenge and memorize this verse!
