This week has basically been a write-off, and spoiler alert, but next week will be too. The reason being is that I’m currently on holiday. Or at least, I will be when this gets posted, because I’m writing this in the past, like usual, but this week even more so. Right now I’m probably flailing wildly as I fall down a mountain backwards in Switzerland attempting what I think is known as skiing, but which will be more readily identified as some kind of downhill breakdancing with planks tied to my feet. Basically, there’s a strong chance this post could be the last I ever do, and my quest through the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die will be cut short, and I’ll have failed. Let’s hope not, ey? Either way, here’s potentially the last things I ever saw:

Chicken Run (2000)

I love Aardman movies, so whenever Aisha picks one to chuck on I rarely argue, because I stand by my claim that they’re the British Pixar. Chicken Run is perhaps their finest work, at least in my opinion, as it borrows heavily from the prison escape genre, of which I am something of a fan. There’s a great deal of The Great Escape here, and seeing as that’s a top 5 movie for me, that only increases how much I love the film. Sometimes it gets a little silly, playing too much to the kids over the adults, but it’s animation, so I just have to allow that from time to time.

Game of Thrones (2013)
Series 3, Episode 1 (Valar Dohaeris) and 2 (Dark Wings, Dark Words): I gave up trying to track down an inexpensive Blu-Ray copy of this, and settled for renting it disc-by-disc from LoveFilm instead, starting with these first two episodes. So far I’ve not been as impressed as I was with the first two seasons, although at two episodes in there’s still a lot of character introductions and settling in going on for this batch of newcomers, all of whom are actors I really like. The great Ciarán Hinds has joined the cast as King Beyond the Wall Mance Rayder, which is wonderful, perfect casting. Mackenzie Crook is an odd choice for the skinchanger in his charge, but maybe he’ll pay off down the line, whereas Love Actually‘s Thomas Brodie-Sangster is a welcome addition as Jojen Reed. Also, Noah Taylor! I had no idea he was in this, cropping up right at the end of episode 2. I love Taylor, and have been keeping an eye on him for a while. His recent participation in the likes of Edge of Tomorrow and Predestination make me very happy indeed.

Lambcast #258 Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Movie Draft: Alas, I had some nonsense family bullshit to attend to last weekend, and as such missed my first Lambcast of the year (but not my last!) and it was one I was really looking forward to as well. Darn. I love the draft shows, and editing this one proved that partaking in the show would have been a laugh riot, because it’s a lot of fun to listen to. Host Robert, was joined by DJ, Dylan, Nolahn and Kristen to compete for the best team of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon movies, which can now be voted for over on the LAMB’s poll. This is one of my favourite shows of the year so far, and is worth a listen even if it’s just for Nolahn’s trademark rant.
