THE OFF SEASON: London on foot

LondonWalk_18After a couple recommendations from Melody, based on the merit of gift shop quality, I laced up my trainers, made amendments to my list of places to see, and headed out for a day of exploration.  Though I didn’t intend to, after exiting King’s Cross St. Pancras station, I spent a good chunk of the day travelling on foot.

I didn’t make it to platform 9 3/4, but I did take a long second to walk the length the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel and admire its outer grandeur on my way to the British Library.

LondonWalk_04LondonWalk_03To celebrate  150 years of publication, the British Library curated an exhibition showcasing a collection of Alice in Wonderland works spanning from reimagined pieces to Lewis Carroll’s original manuscript + hand drawn illustrations.

Perhaps my favourite of the museums!  Though I stopped in at the V&A to specifically see the Botticelli Reimagined exhibition [I highly recommend seeing it!!!] , I got an hour or so in exploring some of the museums general collection.  I could have spent a full day wandering it’s rooms.

Too concerned with tired feet, I didn’t realize until the end of the day, that all the museums and galleries I visited were free admission [to the general exhibitions]!  It was a full day of exploring and it only set me back the price of a coffee, sandwich, and a couple rides on the tube.  Though I don’t think London on a shoe string is possible… well maybe a really large, wide shoestring with sterling silver aglets… I think my day was, unintentionally, pretty close.
