The New Shug Avery.

Michelle Williams of the R&B group Destiny’s Child is joining the Chicago production of “The Color Purple,” the producers announced Tuesday.

I thoroughly enjoyed the theatrical release of Alice Walker’s book, so I’m sure the play will be quite a treat. It had been rumored that the show would make it’s way to Chicago, since Oprah is one of the show’s producers, so I’m glad to see the rumor came true.

  1. >Interesting is one way to put it… I think its great that Michelle and Fantasia both have been considered for the roles they have attained, but I would prefer to see unknowns who can ACT and sing. I don't know if they are trying to cast people that will bring in a wider audience. I'm not really a fan of that, if it is the case. I don't want the Color Purple to go the way of The Lion King… You know that musical that EVERYBODY goes to see, flip-flops and bubble gum included, making the experience is less than pleasant. I wonder how many cell phones will sound.
