January 13, 2019: Silver Streak and Gypsy Coed story will be part of Gilmore Museum Winter Lecture Series on February 3, 2019

January 13, 2019

Honored to have the chance to be part of the Gilmore Automotive Museum Winter Lecture Series at Hickory Corners, Michigan. The Silver Streak and the Gypsy Coeds are the lecture on February 3, followed by a book signing, “Darlene’s Silver Streak and The Bradford Model T Girls”. Should be a fun time.

I just finished reading your book. It was very enjoyable. I was born near HIllsboro, IL but I spent most of my childhood in Morton. I recognized most of the small towns you referenced. My father drove Model T’s as a teenager. I remember his telling that when you raced the T, when you had both ears down you were really going at top speed. I think that was the throttle and the spark advance.

I commend you for your efforts in putting the whole story together. It really was an amazing tale of some remarkable women.

    • Dave, thank you smooch for the note! I appreciate every note I get from readers. The research ended up being so much fun. The writing was more of a challenge, trying to keep it a coherent story yet get all of the facts I had uncovered included, and making it a good read! My biggest concern was that this amazing and wonderful story would end yp being just a so so story because of my inability to tell it well enough. Thanks again and best regards. P.S. You are correct, both ears don was the spark advance and throttle pulled down all the way to achieve top speed.
