This is our remedy for slug control.
Plastic glove and cup, headlight, q-tips to ‘roll up’ those small ones. Go out at night, and be thankful your back and vision still works.
This is the big one that DIDN’T get away.

Heroic!
is picture for real???
Uh well, they certainly grow big here on the Oregon Coast. It’s a real slug but it might have been enlarged a bit for effect.
Ha, you did some good photoshopping, it fooled me! I was pretty scared thinking slugs like that actually exist 🙂
Pat…glad that Jerry forwarded me the ‘slug rehab’ posting.
Then I went looking for something like what I found in my friends yard yesterday, I was going to describe it as a ‘leopard slug’…the largest slug I had EVER seen! Well, by god, it was just like the one you are holding in this picture. (of COURSE not that big…geeez! But I believe that that could get that big if left to their own devices!!)
Take care, Pat!
Bob
Hi Bob,
I’ve been calling this a banana slug…that’s what my wife said it was, and she was right about those pointing things on the front being the ‘eyestems.’ Banana or leopard they are still slimy and prolific. After looking this up I added a link to the blog about how charismatic banana slugs can be…:_)
Reblogged this on Sonel's Corner Photo-Editing Challenge.
Fantastic job on the Photoshop edit! Love this! Thanks for taking part and for sharing. I would not mind having beautiful slugs like that here. We have GALS (Giant African Land Snails) but yours are so colourful. Gorgeous! 😀
Wow, thanks for the reblog. I’m told this is a banana slug which is native to the Oregon Coast, but the European slug is much more plentiful. I’m hoping this unusual dry cold snap will cut down the numbers. Thanks again.
You’re very welcome. These slugs are gorgeous though I am sure they are not good for the plants. 😀
Well, that was fun. I’m not on facebook so I don’t get high numbers. But when you reblogged it, I woke up to some great stats which continued all day. My wife says I’m obsessed with numbers and she might be right. You must have a good following because I ended up with over 100 views. Thanks!
Believe me, WordPress is much more fun than Facebook. I am on FB and I hate it but stay there because of my hubby and sons who doesn’t blog. I don’t really care about numbers or stats and never looks at it but as long as you are happy, then I am too..heheheh. You’re very welcome. 😀
Awesome. 😀
The picture is fake
Getting the slug shot was fun because I had to find an appropriate ‘model’ and lay on the ground to snap the photo. (No ’tilt viewfinder). You never think slugs move fast until you have to follow one several times to get the perfect shot.
I shot the photos before I owned a digital camera, on transparency film, which means I had to wait a week before seeing how they turned out. When PhotoShop became affordable, I scanned the slides and merged them together.
Yes, the photo is “fake” but the effort was real, and I want the “brownie points” for it. 🙂
