Musical Aptitude Assessment Sessions:

Please arrive promptly. The assessment lasts for 1.5 hours.
If your child is selected to attend the music performance session, they will be held on:
| Thursday 17 October 2024 | Between 4.00pm and 7.00pm |
| Friday 18 October 2024 | Between 9.30am and 11.45am |
Please note, performance should last no longer than five minutes.

Camden School for Girls is a renowned secondary school known for its academic excellence and vibrant arts program. As part of the admission process, the school conducts a Music Aptitude Test to identify students with a strong musical aptitude.
The Music Aptitude Test assesses students’ musical skills, including their ability to recognize and differentiate sounds, melodies, and rhythms. It is designed to gauge their potential and passion for music.
Successful performance in the Music Aptitude Test can provide students with opportunities to participate in the school’s music program and pursue their musical interests further.
All music applicants will sit a multiple choice listening aptitude test in music. This test is designed to be an objective measure of musical aptitude and does not require any prior training, practice or knowledge of music theory. The three highest scoring candidates will be informed that should they wish to apply for a place at the school, they will be offered a place on the basis of musical aptitude (if Camden School for Girls is matched by the secondary transfer system as a preference). The remaining 50 highest scoring candidates in this listening test will be invited back for a performance audition. Students will be asked to perform on one or two instruments/voice for up to 5 minutes to further demonstrate their musical aptitude and ability for consideration for the other five places.
We can help you prepare for the 1-to-1 lessons to give you confidence with the tests you will hear on the day. We can also assist you with choosing your pieces for the second round and answering any questions you may be asked on the day of audition.
We have added new dates for Music Scholarship and Aptitude Test training at the SE22 Piano School. These sessions are open to all students, not just our piano students. We have been successfully preparing musicians for scholarships for over a decade. Our head teacher has published articles in Music Teacher magazine about the scholarship process.
