This graphic plays on the characterization of New Deal programs as “alphabet soup” agencies because of their designation by three (sometimes four) letter acronyms.

My goal with this WordPress site is fairly straightforward.  As I present my own research into New Deal archaeology, I hope to foster a dialogue that focuses on a transformative time in the history of American archaeology–the Great Depression. In the coming months, I will highlight federal funded relief archaeology across the U.S., both from an historical perspective, and as a way of highlighting the tremendous research potential of the field records and archaeological collections generated during the New Deal.
