Yes, it’s a big one for the irony fans, isn’t it? Cromwell was a religious fundamentalist every bit as evil as Osama bin Laden. His views on the Catholic Irish were similar to Hitler’s on the Slavs. Still, he did have the right idea when it came Kings.
malc – except that deep down he really wanted to be one and was very tempted to take the offer to become Oliver the First. Instead he ensured the return of the monarchy by smashing all the republican opposition.
