Do you ever feel like you are running, running, running all over the place but not accomplishing anything significant?

John Ortberg writes, “For good reason, God doesn’t always move at our frantic pace. We are too often double espresso followers of a decaf sovereign.” 

Why are you so busy?  Why am I so busy?  Where does all my time go?  How am I choosing to spend my time?

Oswald Chamber writes in My Utmost for His Highest, “We are taken up with active work while people all round are ripe to harvest, and we do not reap one of them, but waste our Lord’s time in over energized activities.” (Oct 16) 

Wow!  Do I ever waste a lot of time in over energized activities!  (And on Facebook.)  No wonder my husband calls me Tigger.  I am bouncy, bouncy, bouncy…fun, fun, fun…  But I am not very good at cultivating the quiet, contemplative spirit that has time to hear God and time to spend hearing others.  

“It is the world’s value system that insists upon endless energy and activities, but no private life with God. The emphasis is put on the wrong thing… the Kingdom of God is a hidden, obscure thing. An active Christian worker too often lives to be seen by others, while it is the innermost, personal area that reveals the power of a person’s life. 

In our Lord’s life there was none of the pressure and the rushing of tremendous activity that we regard so highly today…  The central point of the kingdom of JesusChrist is a personal relationship with Him, not public usefulness to others.  

It is not the practical activities that are the strength of this training program—its entire strength lies in the fact that here you are immersed in the truths of God to soak in them before Him. You have no idea of where or how God is going to engineer your future circumstances, and no knowledge of what stress and strain is going to be placed on you either at home or abroad. And if you waste your time in over activity, instead of being immersed in the great fundamental truths of God’s redemption, then you will snap when the stress and strain do come. But if this time of soaking before God is being spent in getting rooted and grounded in Him, which may appear to be impractical, then you will remain true to Him whatever happens.” (Chambers, Oct 19) 

Where is my emphasis?  Do I have personal depth, power, roots?  

AmI more concerned about my personal inner relationship with Christ or my public usefulness to others? 

Am I grounded, rooted, ready for whatever might come next?  Or am I like the sand pine that has a shallow root system and so easily tips over in hurricane force winds? 

Would it seem odd if I marked out time on my calendar and labeled it “God”? LOL. 

Do it ladies, just say NO to being too busy and YES to time for going deeper with God and deeper with other people.
