The Week Ahead in Beer: Steel Bender decides to heck with it and can ’em all

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.
Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

The more beers a brewery had on draft, the more of an issue it is to clear those beers out before they get too old. For a packaging brewery, though, there is a solution — can ’em all! That is the solution that Steel Bender has come up with, so as soon as the labels are ready, you will be able to get every available draft-only beer, save for Blue Bullet Stout (due to it being on nitro). By the end of this week or early next week, you will be able to purchase cans of Double Raspberry Dynamite, Cutbow Coffee Porter, Die Dunkel Seite, The Village Wit, and Sparkfitter Amber, in addition to the regular canned offerings. Go to the Steel Bender website to see the new ordering process (scroll down to the capsule below for the link). Once the official release date is announced, we will update this post. We have also heard another brewery is looking into canning its remaining seasonals, and once that is made official, we will share that as well.

Breweries, if there is anything not in here that you would like the public to know about, get in touch with us ASAP. We can continuously update this post as needed.

UPDATE: Bosque Brewing is reopening all of its locations in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, and Las Cruces for beer and food to-go orders this Friday. The hours will be noon to 8 p.m. daily at all taprooms.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few new options to check out. Boxing Bear is going to put Body Czech Pilsner in cans, but no release date has been set. Dialogue tapped Sir Dialectic IPA for growler/crowler fills. Ex Novo has fresh batches of Mass Ascension IPA and Aperture Hazy Pale Ale in cans. La Cumbre has two new beers available for growler fills in the 5140 Pale Ale and Dunkel Jefe, plus cans of Community Hazy DIPA arrive at both locations on Friday. Marble will release Cerveza Oscura in cans on Saturday at all locations (UPDATE: the release is being pushed back to April 11), while Citra DIPA is available for growler/crowler fills already. Sidetrack tapped Golden Ale for growler/crowler fills. Starr Brothers is adding Starrdust Hazy IPA on Friday for growler fills. Toltec tapped its new collaboration with Majin Garcia, ApocalypTHICC Russian Imperial Stout.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn has a fresh batch of Gatekeeper IPA for growler/crowler fills. Rowley Farmhouse Ales put Thrace Hazy IPA in cans, and ’82 Teal Camaro – Batch 2 (saison) bottles arrive Saturday. Second Street just put Dragon’s Blood Sour in cans for offsite sales. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing tapped Parasol, a golden ale, for growler/crowler fills.

Instead of “Beers” being an all-encompassing list of seasonal/specialty offerings, we are now splitting everything into “Growler/Crowler Fills” for beers on draft, and “Can/Bottle” for pre-packaged beers.
