For Lana Del Rey, everything surrounding her new studio album has been nothing short of a surprise. Instead of dropping new singles the typical way, the songstress has taken to debuting them either live in concert or by announcing its upcoming release via Instagram. Keeping up with the trend, Del Rey announced last week plans to release a new song and now, she’s come through.

On Wednesday (Jan. 9), the New York-born musician released her new song “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me…but I have it.” In typical Del Rey fashion, the new song is moody and mellow, but for those who pay close attention to the lyrics, there may be an Easter egg around the 50-second mark.

In the line, Del Rey compares herself to noted poet Sylvia Plath by singing: “I’ve been tearing around in my f***ing nightgown. 24/7 Sylvia Plath, writing in blood on the walls.”

Last October, Del Rey posted (and deleted) a clip for a song titled “Sylvia Plath.” At the time, it was believed that “Sylvia Plath” would be the title of one of her new tracks, but apparently it was just a working title.

“hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me…but I have it” is the latest track Del Rey has released from her forthcoming new album, Norman Fucking Rockwell.

To date, Del Rey has treated fans to a total of six songs from the upcoming release; “How to Disappear,” “Venice Bitch,” “Hey Blue Baby,” “I Must Be Stupid for Feeling So Happy,” lead single “Mariners Apartment Complex,” and now “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me…but I have it.”

Norman Fucking Rockwell is the follow-up to 2017’s Lust for Life. No specific release date has been given, but Del Rey did tell fans last week that the album was complete.
