I sense it is that time again,
When I should find a gal,
Someone whose looks drive me insane,
Someone to be my pal.
She’ll hold me close and nuzzle me,
What bliss is yet to come,
I’ll call her and she’ll fly, you’ll see,
To visit when I drum.
I hear so many songbirds call,
My drumming will be loud,
Beware the chimney and don’t fall,
Just stand here tall and proud.
Ah, here she is, she’s come at last,
Now I need to be cool,
I can’t acknowledge her too fast,
And then be played a fool.

It sure has! All the birds are singing their hearts out and calling for mates. I love it.

That used to annoy me when they did that on our Florida chimney (why there was a fireplace built in that home, I’ll never know. It was Florida!). Haven’t had it happen here yet. Hoping it never will. Have a nice weekend, Anneli.

You too, Lori, I heard you have snow. Is that right?

Yep! It’s snowing as I type this. I have a log on in the fire, and I can see the snow out the windows. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. 😏 Last week I was wearing shorts!

It shouldn’t last too long, but pretty as it is, I know it must feel like a setback as you hope for spring. Soon!

Nah, I’m okay with it. It’s been so warm it’s not accumulating much. Just some slushy white patches on the grass. I’ve seen it do this in April before, so it’s not surprising. I know spring is close by. My tulips already have buds!

Thanks for the video, Anneli! I love hearing them (and all the birds at this time of year) even if they do make a bit of a racket. Great poem.

Yes, my chimney, but luckily they don’t damage it. If they started on the wood siding of the house, I’d have to get out there with a water hose.

Oh, those crazy Northern Flickers. I went outside one autumn to discover one attached to my stucco and drumming. Certainly attracted my attention. This pair are so cute. It is like they are ringing the phone, waiting for the other one to pickup. Beautiful birds. Happy spring Anneli., Allan

I thought the second flicker that showed up was knocking on the top one’s door and he wasn’t answering it – and this, after he asked her to come over.

What a noisy bunch they are! Lovely. A real and true sign of spring arriving. I too, took a short video of this morning‘s experience. We spend the weekend somewhere else, yesterday was warm and beautiful, today it‘s foggy, rainy, with an unpleasant wind. BUT the birds are all singing!

Yes, and as long as the birds sing in the morning, there is a good chance spring is coming. It’s getting better all the time. Thanks for your nice comment, Kiki! Happy spring.
