The Highest Peak in Germany

Just south of the tiny German town, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, stands the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains, at 9,718 feet above sea level. Zugspitze was most likely derived from the German word zugbahnen meaning avalanche paths.

You can hike to the top or take a cable car. (I bet you can guess which one I did.) Once you’ve reached the peak, there are a few places to eat and drink. Don’t be a fool and forget a good pair of pants. Despite the warm weather down below, it can feel pretty frigid on the mountain. We were the only jerks in shorts up there.
