Micah Carter and Janie Vivien have been best friends ever since they were little. These aren’t your average best friends; their souls are connected. Janie was a rebellious girl who always carried stones and two matches with her. On the other hand, Micah was a reserved, collected person. These two friends built a hill of stones called the “Metaphor” to share together as their own place. In the dull town of Waldo in Iowa, in her senior year, Janie declared there would be an apocalypse. That’s the only thing that Micah Carter could remember after the world began to end.
I found this book to be a delight to read. The characters all have diverse personalities and aspects that make the story more interesting. The way the author used different perspectives in each chapter helped the reader to create a more vivid idea of how each character felt in the story. Each chapter revealed something about the plot. The author used subtle foreshadowing and tension that helped to reveal the climax in the book.
I thought that the different perspectives of the characters made the story more vivid. Being able to know what each character was feeling and thinking made it easier to understand the story and the plot. This way of writing revealed secrets about one character that the other hadn’t known. When being able to see what each character thought, it caused the book to be more interesting and surprising.
