- Untitled May 30, 2024 8:21 amgood morning everyone. I would like to write a pithy comment but it's half past 10 and I didn't have coffee yet so this is what you get.
- Untitled May 28, 2024 9:37 pmFor a moment it seemed the satellite internet wasn't working and we'd have to spend the next few days without. Is it odd that I'm a bit disappointed?
- Untitled May 28, 2024 8:39 pmIn the Beskid mountains right now, where appropriate for recent discussions there's a heightened chance to meet a bear in the woods.
- Untitled May 27, 2024 10:34 pmby the way, anyone wanna mesh with my #uucp system?
- Untitled May 27, 2024 10:34 pmI have been spending entirely too much mental energy trying to figure out why my #uucp connections to my own computers don't want to work. I already managed to mesh with another person's systems, so I really don't know what the issue is... besides using uucp in the first place.
- Untitled May 27, 2024 2:53 pmand it's a pity. sometimes I think it would be great to see some insightful blog post or random reddit comment boiled down to it's essentials and saved somewhereI remember all the times when I encountered some stupid but amazing ideas when trawling old download sites
- Untitled May 27, 2024 2:49 pmif there's one thing I miss of the early net it's the way people just put their random shit and fun comments ideas in a textfile and saved it for public consumption somewhere. there's still a few archives around (e.g. textfiles.com), but new stuff isn't really added anymore#internet
- Untitled May 26, 2024 4:42 pmAh, the high drama of who gets the first pieces of cake on a children's birthday. Very Game of Thrones, but the knives go into the cake.
- Untitled May 26, 2024 4:10 pmOn a children's birthday right now, but sitting on the side, puzzled about my home server. Why can't I connect to it? I'd assume it's down, but it isn't. Can't ssh to it, ping times out, traceroute doesn't work, webpages aren't served. But the other irc server connected to mine still sees it, the bouncer, and the bots, so these still work... And they still are connected to the net because I just got a response from one.#itismagic
- Untitled May 25, 2024 5:20 pm@lkh also you need to know where on the target system the files actually are located
- Untitled May 25, 2024 5:19 pm@lkh interestingly uucp also can be used as a fileshare server. if one is willing to wait a while for their stuff to arrive (depending on how often the servers in between poll each other)
- Untitled May 25, 2024 4:36 pm@lkh and then we will have our computers meshed together which means we can send mails via uucp to...*checks notes*us two. Hmm...
- Untitled May 25, 2024 4:31 pmtrying to get #uucp running with @lkh (still!)now I know why SMTP is called the **Simple** mail transfer protocol#email #smtp
- Untitled May 25, 2024 2:31 pmI am intrigued, but am I willing to spend money on this?#sweets #wtfisthis
- Untitled May 25, 2024 9:54 amafter troubleshooting way too long into the night this morning it finally dawns on me: when I tripped the fuse the rpi rebooted, but my laptop didn't. So when the network came back the laptop registered on the network first and by chance got the IP the rpi normally reserves for itself. So all the time when I was trying to ping my little server I was pinging my own notebook and of course I saw it as online
- Untitled May 25, 2024 9:51 amah, IT issues... yesterday I tripped a fuse when making dinner (the electric kettle somehow creates a power surge just before boiling, and when the oven runs at the same time it gets tripped). When I put it back my small rpi server in the living room all of a sudden makes issues. It runs, and I can connect to it from the outside, but somehow not from inside my home network. But I ping it and it seems to be on... but I just can't seem to ssh onto it anymore.#rpi #itwoes #linux
- Untitled May 24, 2024 7:44 pm5yo: lasagna tastes like slime! But slime that I really, really like!#kids
- Untitled May 24, 2024 11:15 amconfiguring #uucp with @lkh sometimes I wonder if maybe we all are a bit too geeky?

- Untitled May 23, 2024 11:22 amit's 2024. I didn't think I needed to have a bookmark tab for alternative search engines anymore, but here we go...
