Beer – #992 – Three Boys – Imperial Oyster Stout

Three Boys Imperial Oyster Stout, a beer of celebration. I had the original Oyster Stout a long time ago, and I didn’t think much of it as a Stout back than, but you know I’ve changed and I should did a justice and revisit that.

big news

This is the 330ml bottle of beer that is 12% ABV, and that would make it about 360 calories, and this is is 3 standard drinks worth.

Brewed by Three Boys Brewery in the stye that is of a Imperial Stout and they are in Christchurch, New Zealand

This is big news, and a big, beautiful beer!

Imperial me

We’ve teamed up with Cryer Malt and doubled everything in our award winning Oyster Stout recipe to create this, double malt, double hops, double Bluff Oysters and double abv beer.

Available in 330ml bottles while they last!

So, What could possibly go wrong?

Well it’s going to be lost in the giant glass that I brought today. But that’s possibly the worst it could be.

You can really pick up a hit of those chocolate burnt oats and malt sweetness in this.

In the giant glass I got quite a tang of alcohol wafting in there. Pour is dark as you’d expect and sits still in the glass with hints of carbonation at the edges.

The alcohol is strong in this one, edging out the lovely sweetness that this has, the softness in the malts is there, and I’m sure I’ve started this too cold and it’s going to really kick on and come into it’s own.

You can see the alcohol slick on the sides of the glass, this is both enlightening and frightening at the same time.

This really does kick on as it warms becoming much sweeter and at he same time mellow

It was at this point I discovered that the beer had been evaporating! Honestly Guv’. It’s sipped itself away and I’m still getting to grips with it, if you will.

What a lovely bit of wrk

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 9 of its things from the thing. This start of a bit brash but really settles down and becomes sipping beer of the first order. Looks fully at home in an oversize glass which does it lots of favours on the aroma front, and that delicate alcohol viscous wash down the side of the glass. Better as it warms

The double dip review

  • Where did I get it? The local Liquorland had some.
  • Am I enjoying it? Yes
  • Would I have another? yes
  • Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? Yes, without doubt, and not a beer that is out of place at the beginning of the evening and I’m sure at the end as well.

IMPERIAL STOUT

Imperial stouts are usually extremely dark brown to black in color with flavors that are intensely malty, deeply roasted and sometimes with accents of dark fruit (raisin, fig) or milk sourness. The bitterness is typically medium and often the low sie of that. Imperial stouts are strong and often exceed 8% by volume.
