Threshold Festival is a staple in any real music lover’s festival season. It’s the festival that wakes us up for the onslaught to come. It’s the festival that fuses true grassroots talent, from across the arts, music, performance and art. The team behind it are a dedicated bunch and this year have, for various reasons, slimmed down the festival. That’s not to say you can expect anything less than usual. Oh hell no, this year is looking to be just as exciting as any other year, only it will be over in a flash.

This year too they bring the added element of the discussion. The chance to sit down and listen and engage with various panels and shed talks from all manner of people from across the music and arts industries, from bloggers to ticket sales experts and promoters. They are open to everyone with a ticket too. You can find out more here.

In true Popped Music fashion, below, you’ll find a little snippet of who we reckon you should be checking out, music wise! You’ll possibly even note there are a few bands playing our stages in a few weeks too – so get along now, learn the words and come back in a few weeks and sing along. The more times you see a great band, the fewer fairies die… or something like that anyway.

Ones to watch

Ovvls

Dark and menacing, and that’s just looking at the drummer. On a serious note, Liverpool’s Ovvls have always presented themselves as a serious duo. A pair who know exactly who they want to be and are prepared to put themselves on the line to showcase it. New music shows further facets of the duo and will be available for all to see here at Threshold, as they put together a thoughtful selection of their more recent tracks alongside brand new material.

Fick As Fieves

Winner’s of one of our New Music Playlist Polls back in mid 2017, Fick As Fieves are going on to prove a lot of points. Mainly though, that they can bring together cracking tunes and great people. The band have caught the attention of lots of our new music loving mates, including the brilliant This Feeling. So after Threshold and before playing for us, they’ll also be playing for This Feeling alongside the likes of NW beauties No Hot Ashes….. you know then this is a band not to be missed.

The Mono LPs
No Threshold Festival would ever be complete if this band wasn’t playing. It’s how I first discovered them, and actually over time, have become good friends with them. That aside it’s their music you want to focus your head on right now….. rock n roll… with a cello. There’s always a great sense of fun to be found and they are a bunch of fantastic musicians. The band opened the new Peaky Blinders bar at the end of last year and reminded me then exactly how great they really are.
