ALL PALACES ARE TEMPORARY PALACES
Robert Montgomery is a poet. Or better said, he works in a poetic tradition, using words as matter to form his sculptures. Sculptures made of words and light – recycled sun-light – mostly in public spaces, in the city, at fairs, wherever, in a continuing effort to engage a dialogue with passers-by. Montgomery likes to think of “the public” as being individuals: “ at its best art is an intimate conversation with strangers, one at a time, heart-to-heart. It’s quite a privilege to be able to communicate intimately to people you may never meet. ” Montgomery also makes billboard pieces, continuously hijacking multiple advertising spaces in the cities around the world, from Geneva to Istanbul, from London to Lyon. Words from a blogger (Le projet d’amour): “i’ve repeated his words … because i feel like they almost have to be repeated over and over again, like ads, in order for them to complete their meaning.”
He had to show at Docks Art Fair “ALL PALACES ARE TEMPORARY PALACES”. The palaces though were so temporary that they will not be shown at Docks. Here they are… ephemeral as the wind that blew them down.
