“Minor League Guy” was a Midwest League star last year.

The photo seen above circulated the Internet yesterday after Fox Sports Midwest’s broadcast of the St. Louis Cardinals game included the graphics team’s inability to recognize one of the team’s top minor-league stars.

As a matter of fact, “Minor League Guy” was a star in the Midwest League last year, playing a huge part in the Quad Cities River Bandits winning the league championship.

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but SB Nation St. Louis reports that Minor League Guy is outfielder Oscar Taveras, who hit .386 with 8 HR and 62 RBI in 78 games with the River Bandits last year. This isn’t just any minor-league guy; Taveras won the Midwest League batting title last year, is ranked the third-highest prospect in the Cardinals’ organization by Baseball America, and was compared to a young Tony Oliva by Quad Cities manager Johnny Rodriguez.

Oh, and he doesn’t turn 20 until June 19. You’ll probably be hearing a lot more about him in the years to come — so much so that the Fox Sports Midwest graphics team may even learn to recognize him.
