Today, I have led a workshop that lasted 2 hours at UNMSM (Universidad Mayor de San Marcos). Students of the Math School organized the workshop and these were the ads:
I have presented FEDORA and GNOME, some students expressed that they have used Ubuntu and Unity before, but never FEDORA neither GNOME. I started with history of GNU/Linux and then the Red Hat history to land into the FEDORA overview, how I got involved and ways of contributions.
Students who answered questions correctly won a prize such as DVDs and stickers of the FEDORA and GNOME events I did. Some of them liked to have balloons of the projects 🙂
A group photograph was taken before installation of FEDORA 25 on their machines:
We installed FEDORA 25 64bits on VMWARE, and all of them had achieved successfully!
Finally, I presented GNOME to the audience and the programs Outreachy and GSoC:
Thanks so much to the organizers Cis (Computation Intelligence Society) of the UNMSM (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos) and the support of enthusiastic guys!
Sounds cool, but any special reason to use VMWare and not VirtualBox or qemu/Gnome boxes? Are these mainly Windows users perhaps?
Thanks Luca for your constructive feedback! when I go to universities to do a 2 hours talk some of them has enough space on disk to install Fedora, but whenever is not the case, I usually ask to have previously prepared a virtual scenery. Next time I will mention for sure, specifically VBox or Boxes.
