Emergency Art Action to Fund Black Futures
Tuesday, June 16, 2020 | 1-3pm
Steps of The Philadelphia Museum of Art (followed by procession to City Hall)
The Artist Coalition for a Just Philadelphia held an Emergency Art Action to Fund Black Futures on Tuesday, June 16th at 1pm at the steps of The Philadelphia Museum of Art (followed by procession to City Hall), coinciding with City Council hearings on the 2021 budget!
This action utilized the power of artistic expression in the form of music, dance and visual art to demand a city budget that funds black futures by Defunding the Police and Saving the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. We invite all Philadelphians to join us in expressing how the arts are essential to our communities and demand a city budget that defends black life, art and culture! The voices of Black, Indigenous, and POC artists are centered and amplified.
Watch the video below to Learn Spiral Q‘s Healing & Reconciliation Dance, which concluded the event!
GET INVOLVED!

We are making strides, and making change, so we must keep up the pressure–– we have a world to win!
OUR DEMANDS:
We stand in solidarity with essential workers, educators and organizers, and make the following demands to defending our cultural practices, platforms, and identities:
-Implement an ongoing divestment strategy from the Philadelphia Police Department, beginning with zero increase to the PPD police budget in 2021 and an overall budget decrease in order to reinvest in essential services and the arts in Philadelphia.
-Preserve, protect and invest in the Philadelphia Cultural Fund (PCF).
– Access to arts education for all Philadelphia Youth, including those with disabilities, English Language learners, those living in poverty, black students and students of color, students in foster care, and students experiencing homelessness.
WHO WE ARE
